Health and Physical Education (PE) is a specialist subject for all students at Pascoe Vale South PS and our program allocates a minimum of 1 lesson per week with a specialist teacher.
At the core of these lessons is the acquisition of fundamental gross motor and movement skills and concepts to enable students to participate in a range of physical activities – confidently, competently and creatively. They are taught the value of working as part of a team and the Grade 5/6 students have opportunity to feel what it is like to be involved in competitive activities through the inter-school sports program.
Students acquire an understanding of how the body moves and develop positive attitudes towards physical activity and participation. Movement is a powerful medium for learning, through which students can practise and refine personal, behavioural, social and cognitive skills. At Pascoe Vale South PS, our PE program is designed to be contemporary, relevant, challenging and physically active. As well as building much needed life long skills such as being part of a team, resilience and confidence in themselves.
Our students are given the opportunity to be involved in Cross-country, Athletics and Swimming Carnivals. Local Sports Clubs are also invited to be part of our PE sessions to give our students experience to learn and play sports that gives further opportunities for participation in other ways.
