Pascoe Vale South's House Spirit system is an opportunity to connect and unite our entire school community. It aims to connect teams of cross aged students, staff and families. Enriching school culture, elevating student wellbeing, creating valuable connections and nurturing each students’ journey toward personal belonging is another key goal. The House Spirit Teams and House Captains work together with other students across the school to develop a true sense of belonging.
The House system will give all students, families and staff an opportunity to contribute in different ways. Book Week, Literacy & Numeracy Week, Spelling Bees, Chess Clubs, Buddy Programs, Sports Carnivals, School Concert and Art Show will be incorporated within our House Spirit Days. These experiences are fun, diverse, inclusive, vibrant and engaging.
Each house has a colour, an Australian Animal and married with a school value. Our House Spirit Teams are called: Koala (blue), Cockatoo (green), Echidna (red) and Platypus (yellow). They all link to our school values which are, Respect, Caring, Learning and Enjoyment.
Koala – Koalas work hard for their food as well as protecting and nurturing their young. They care for their young in their pouches before carrying them on their backs whilst climbing up eucalyptus trees. School Value: CARING
Echidna – The echidna is a respectful and polite Australian animal that will always give you your space during your hike. They will never harm you and when defending themselves they roll up into a ball and dig a hole away from you. Once again showing you, they will respect you if you respect them! School Value: RESPECT
Platypus – Platypuses are very hardworking and fantastic swimmers. They like slow flowing and good quality water to ensure an enjoyable and relaxing environment. Platypuses know by putting in the hard work, caring and learning about their habitat that they will enjoy themselves. School Value: ENJOYMENT
Cockatoo – Cockatoos are indeed very smart and curious birds. If you challenge a cockatoo they will always be up for it! For instance, a cockatoo can learn and discover many ways to find new food sources. Even if the food source is very difficult to find – like fruit up in a tree! School Value: LEARNING
Thank you to the 2020 School Captains who were the founders of the House Spirit Teams and researching each of the Australian animals and matching them to our school values of RESPECT, CARING, LEARNING and ENJOYMENT!
