Starting school is a major life transition for both children and their families. Both challenging and exciting, it is a time of change in which children, families and educators adjust to new roles, identities, expectations, interactions and relationships.

A great foundation transition program is about more than just the first day. It is how we ensure every student has the best start to primary school. Evidence shows a successful first year transition program can contribute to up to 60 per cent of student learning improvement in academic and social development.
Therefore, our school approach to Step into PVSPS Program is not only critical to a child’s introduction to primary school but also their long-term academic results.
A successful transition to school should be a dynamic process, beginning well before a child starts school and continuing until children and families feel a sense of belonging at Pascoe Vale South. In Term 3, your child will be invited to a weekly transition program that begins with a similar play based program as their current kinder year ensuring children are feeling safe in their new physical and social environment. This will help to create a seamless transition from kinder to school. This program runs for 3 weeks once your child has been accepted into Pascoe Vale South Primary School.
In Term 4, our Transition Program will continue for another 3 weeks and teachers will continue to build relationships and familiarity of our school environment. At the same time, we run a parent/carer information sessions which will encompass getting your child ready for school, happy healthy and safe strategies getting ready for school, and also developing literate, numerate and curious students. All students enrolled will attend these sesisons whilst parnts/carers are able to also develop relationships with each other through these informative sesisons.
