Pascoe Vale South Primary School's physical education (PE) program gives children the opportunity to be active every single day. We believe that PE is a vital part of the curriculum as it teaches children about fairness and good sportsmanship. It also promotes fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
PE enables students to develop and refine fundamental motor skills, develop a sense of game play and analyse movement. The students learn to control the way their body moves and develop the correct technique in a range of skills and sports. They are given the chance to express their interests and feelings towards PE, set goals and work towards achieving them. Our PE program especially focusses on positive sporting behaviour, respect and teamwork.
Throughout Term 1 and 4 students are expected to bring and wear their wide-brimmed hats, have a full bottle of water and wear suitable shoes for their PE session.
The Arts Programs
In the Arts programs at Pascoe Vale South Primary School, students have the opportunity to create, make, explore and respond to art works in a variety of ways. Students make links between Visual Arts, Performing Arts and other subject areas.
The visual art program introduces students to a broad range of visual art forms. It is designed to develop creative thinking and expression, and to give students basic skills within the areas of painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, textiles and construction. The students are exposed to a wide range of artworks, which gives them the ability to respond appropriately to art in their world and provides a creative influence for their own work. Project themes also facilitate cultural, environmental, historical, social and emotional learning. We celebrate achievement in visual art through displays of student artwork around the school and at our biennial community art exhibition.
Pascoe Vale South Primary School conducts a highly anticipated biennial school concert. Students are involved in a variety of performing arts based lessons culminating in a spectacular show displaying the talents of every student. All year levels participate and perform to the entire school community at wonderful venues such as The Centre, Ivanhoe.
Two specialised workshops are conducted during lunch breaks each week and focus on developing musical skills, social skills and teamwork. Workshop A is dedicated to the development of a school rock band for students in years 3-6. Workshop B is catered for Foundation/Prep-2 students to explore different percussive instruments and develop basic ensemble skills.
Through an external music program, Creative Music, students engage in one-to-one or small groups lessons of up to 30 minutes each week. Tuition is offered for guitar, keyboard, flute, clarinet, saxophone and trumpet. Students develop skills in notation reading, technique and theoretical knowledge.

Garden Club and Lunchtime Clubs
Pascoe Vale South Primary School offers three 15-minute gardening session throughout the week during break times. The gardening program is voluntary for students. Two teachers facilitate the sessions and the group decides on the jobs for the day to maintain the gardens. All students are welcome to participate during gardening times. We usually have 20 or more students at each session.
As well as the garden club, the teachers at Pascoe Vale South Primary School encourage groups of students to run and promote their own lunchtime clubs. The clubs are announced at school assembly and are run by the students themselves. The teachers have no input into the clubs except to suggest locations and sometimes provide materials. Some of the popular clubs are arts and crafts, dance and boot camp.
